A more compact, slender relative of common bulrush, forming dense clumps of narrow, upright green leaves reaching around 90-150cm. From July to September it produces slim, cylindrical flower spikes in the classic bulrush "poker" shape, maturing to an attractive milk-chocolate brown, adding structure and winter interest as well as a valuable food source for birds.

Suitable for medium to large ponds, Typha gracilis grows well in shallow water up to around 20-30cm deep, in full sun to partial shade. As with all reedmace, it's a vigorous grower with sharp, spreading roots, so it's best kept confined to a planting basket to protect pond liners and prevent it from taking over.

Each plant is hand-selected to ensure it arrives with you in the best possible condition.
